Brief Introduction of Medical College of Xiamen University
Medical College of Xiamen University, its establishment approved by the Education Ministry of P.R. China on 1,Oct 1996, is jointly run by the government of Xiamen city and Xiamen University, and has since enjoyed continuous sponsorships from overseas Chinese.
The college executes the dean-presiding system, supervised by directorate, Dr. Wu JiePing is the honorary dean. The current Dean is Prof. and Dr. Zhuguo Liu, a renounced ‘Yangzhi River’ scholar.
The college is located in the picturesque eastern-south coast in Xiamen occupying an territory of 70.000 square meters.
Its faculties include basic medicine, clinical medicine, preventive medicine, pharmacology, nursing, traditional Chinese medicine, bioengineering research center, cancer research center, along with three affiliated hospitals, six teaching hospitals and four teaching bases.
The college offers various diplomas and degrees to students as below:
Five year courses for bachelor degree: Clinical western medicine, Preventive medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine;
Four year courses for bachelor degree: pharmacology, nursing.
Three year courses for Master degree: bioengineering, medical chemistry, pharmacology, internal medicine, surgery, and oncology.
The number of annually admitted students is around 500, the total number of students on campus is around 1700; the number of faculty staffs is 361, the number of professors or associated professors is close to 200, 50% of them owns a PhD., above all are four Deans and one ‘Yangzhi River scholar’ .
In Nov. 2005, the teaching standard run by the college at the level of bachelor degree has won the acceptance of the experts organized by the education ministry of P.R. China, with the excellence in total of nineteen indexes.
There has been seven batches of graduates on clinical western medicine, some went abroad or read for master degree to pursue further study;
their employment rate is 97%, most of them work in the hospitals run by cities.
Xiamen University is the only key comprehensive university directly affiliated with the Education Ministry and located at any of the five special economic zones at present. It is founded by Mr. Tan Kah Kee, the well-known patriotic overseas Chinese leader in 1921.With 20 schools containing 37 departments, Xiamen University has become a comprehensive university providing a fairly complete range of educational programs in humanities, social sciences, natural science, engineering and technology, management, art education, and medical science. The university now offers 70 undergraduate programs and 157 graduate programs, including 4 post-doctoral programs and 87 Ph.D. programs. With an area of 367 acres,the beautiful campus of Xiamen University locates in the south of Xiamen island, backing on hills and near the sea.The new campus----Zhangzhou campus,which faces the Xiamen campus across the sea,is now in formal operation.

TCM overseas education of our school began in 1956.At present,it provides full-time undergraduate courses of TCM,distance undergraduate and professional courses of TCM and Acupuncture and moxibustion, advavced courses of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Chinese Traumato-orthopedics and Tuina,as well as short-term courses of TCM,Acupuncture and Moxibustion,Scalp-acupuncture,Ear-acupuncture,Medicated Diet,Health Preservation,Diet Therapy and Medicinal Tea,etc.All the courses are aimed at students coming from south-east Asia countries,Hongkongg,Macao and Taiwan regions as well as other countries and regions.By now,we have attracted more than 20,000 foreign students coming from more than 50 countries and regions.Some of them have become well-known personage or specialists ,who have made great contributions to serving the people and spreading Chinese cultures in the countries and regions they live in.
