Aslant tongue

(5)        Numbness of tongue:  this is when patient feels numbness in the tongue and its mobility is limited.  This is generally due to Yin blood’s inability to rise and nourish the tongue.  If numbness occurs randomly for no apparent reason, it is likely to be deficiency in heart blood.  If the tongue is both numb and trembling, and the patient also exhibits other symptoms of strokes, then this indicates internal movement of liver-wind.

(6)        Trembling tongue:  the tongue trembles uncontrollably when protruded.  This is mostly due to deficiency in both Qi and blood, under-nourished tendons and production of internal wind  because of the high heat drying up fluid.

(7)        Aslant tongue:  this refers to the tongue hanging askew to one side of the mouth.  This is mostly caused by ill-wind, or wind-phlegm involving meridians, or viscera.  It normally affects one side’s meridians or tendons causing the same side of the tongue to become lax and askew.  This is usually a symptom of stroke or coming of a stroke.

(8)        The Protruding and Moving tongue:  this is when the protruded tongue cannot be withdrawn at will, or when the tongue licks various part of the lips uncontrollably.  Both are due to heat attacking the heart and spleen meridians, reducing fluid, and tightening tendons.  It is often seen in children with congenital retardation.
